The deep heart
Something in the dark is alive
The deep heart of the forest keeps many secrets. There are no trails or signs, my ears are alert to vaguely familiar sounds and my eyes try to interpret bizarrely, shadowed landscapes.

Sometimes in the forest I can hear the deep heart beat slowly, oh so slowly. It is a rhythm I cannot fathom, a tempo beyond my experience.
The dark and twisted trees murmur as I try to sidle past. I am certain that they mock me and my restlessness. I do not know where I am or where I have been, the forest closes in behind me, leaving no trail, no proof of my being. Each step is a step into the unknown, a move deeper into undiscovered territory.
Am I imagining when I hear mumbling and rumbling within my heart? I am certain the forest calls: “Come closer and let me bury you in heavy dreams. Fall into my twisted arms and let my darkness and mystery wash away your petty concerns.”
I love the threat of the dark forest and its alien song. It gives me a glimpse into other worlds, other realms, dark and mysterious possibilities. Perhaps we are not alone and maybe they have already landed.
